Somebody once wrote me, asking, “There are certainly a large amount of teachers and students of A Course in Miracles out there, but there must be something which you’ve hooked into, or caught onto? Something that triggered a transformation or perhaps a major healing. So, the thing that was it?”
“Trust,” I said.
Consider your lifetime since it seems to be nowadays when it comes to the story. How can we answer the question; “Who do I trust? Where do I believe my safety lies? How will I be sustained? Who’s my source?” So when we discuss the final stage to the awakening being pure trust, it’s simply about disengaging and withdrawing our faith and rely upon many of these made-up concepts acim teacher of teachers, beliefs and ideas in the world. It’s a lot like making a big house of cards, stacking using one card following the other. A good wind occurs and poof, it’s just blown over. It can’t even stand only a little gust of wind. It’s so frail. It’s so temporary. It’s so transitory; It was this sense of placing rely upon the Spirit and withdrawing rely upon anything else; dozens of things that were identified and learned as worldly accomplishments. Why should we rely upon those? Have they ever brought us lasting peace and happiness? Are they really trustworthy? It certainly comes down seriously to the essence of who is my cousin? Is it Spirit or matter? Is it Spirit or form? Furthermore how many of us have tried trusting people? Has anybody tried that certain? So you’re asking the question, “When someone dies or seems to be dying of starvation, what does that say about their mind?” Where this is heading is always to the awareness that everything is mental. What this awakening can tell you is that everything is mental and that everything is just a hallucination. This really is a world of ideas and what we call manifest reality, isn’t reality at all. There’s no distinction between thought and form. Jesus has to build his whole workbook in A Course In Miracles on making the text between thought and form. His lessons begin with, “Nothing I see means anything,” (W-1) and, “I’ve given everything I see all this is it has for me.” (W-2) Then, He works his way around number four, “These thoughts don’t mean anything&rdquo ;.Now, He’s talking about thoughts. First He’s talking about perception, then about our thoughts, then He comes home with lessons 5,6,7,8,9 … perception, perception, perception, perception, perception … and then number 10, “My thoughts don’t mean anything.” You can see he’s trying to melt everything together and show the final veil or stage of awakening, that is trust.
The Holy Spirit uses time to teach us there’s no such thing as time, to take us back to that particular timeless moment that is the gateway to eternity. He uses symbols to instruct us that they’re all illusions and that they’re all equally meaningless. That’s precisely the approach to operation of Holy Spirit. The Spirit has to work well with your brain to loosen the attachments from the investment in all sorts of things. What sort of things would you purchase, nowadays?
